This has enormously decreased the companys working expenses, yet in addition help it to draw in more clients (Euromonitor International 2011). Shortcomings Work Dispute The argument about compensation and state of its lodge team has made a mechanical activity occur in 20-22 March and 27-30 March 2010 (Euromonitor International 2011). The strikes held by Unite, which speaks to around 25,000 specialists at British Airways, had acquired more than  £150 million misfortune to the organization in year 2010. Teen Pregnancy its Prevalence and Alternatives Free Essays

Zarrilli referenced that â€Å"Although researchers differ on a definition, we may characterize ‘popular’ theater as stage amusement that interests to cross class crowds in complex social orders through business implies. † (Zarrilli et al, Theater Histories, 2006, pg 311) In this setting it could be expressed that a venue is where the entertainer and on-screen character play out their characters as indicated by the chief content is composed. Be that as it may, the following up on the stage and particularly before the crowd is more troublesome as opposed to performing on the back stage. We will compose a custom paper test on Adolescent Pregnancy: its Prevalence and Alternatives or on the other hand any comparative theme just for you Request Now There is entire part of contrast between a typical theater and a famous theater on the grounds that as opposed to the way of life copy and mirror it likewise shows difference for the onlookers with not a solitary inquiry to reply but rather really gives a reflection to the crowd to discover the appropriate response. Mainstream theater is not at all like that, what we see on TV or theater, where the entertainer and on-screen character are playing out an artful culmination, however here it is just to perform and understand the circumstance of the content and assume a phase job in a basic way with the goal that everybody can comprehend. Nonetheless, in this setting it is applicable to make reference to that acting, people dramatization, celebrations, schedule festivities, for example, Christmas, Easter, the reap celebration and Halloween, fairs, jokesters, unscripted television as instances of well known theater. Conversation While setting a job before a watcher well known performance center should recount to a story and furthermore carry a worry to the network around the issue. The substance ought to be a likely one and it ought to be a venue as a â€Å"rehearsal of life† with the goal that the guests can conquer the feelings of dread of mind and can assemble an independence among them selves. The demonstration ought to be extreme, so the crowd gets support and they ought to have the thoughts decisively at the top of the priority list. Consequently from this view point occasions like acting, society show, celebrations, schedule festivities, for example, Christmas, Easter, the reap celebration and Halloween, festivals, comedians, unscripted television well mixes into the boundary of famous theater. Presently, for the introduction it requires some time and with the picked type of correspondence it tends to be done rapidly and without any problem. Now and again the neighborhood individuals do the costs making the creation cost low. Another significant piece of famous auditorium is to sort out a not many individuals who have a generally excellent comprehension among themselves so they can settle on their own choices and take an interest to accomplish the work. (Berkowitz, 189) A representation of a contextual analysis would help in this unique circumstance. Take for instance ‘Kissa Kursi Ka’ (Trans: Tale of Throne), Directed by previous parliamentarian Amrit Nahata, that started as a society show, was a dubious Indian play. The plot rotated around a degenerate and abhorrence lawmaker, Utpal Dutt, attempting to charm exemplified open, Shabana Azmi. It discussed fiendish legislators pursuing the clerical seat to do everything without exception to get the alleged service seat and at last shows that all lawmakers are of same character, leaving a question mark on the watchers about the characters of the government officials administering the nation. This is the thing that society dramatization does. It uncovers the open assessment on various issues. For this situation it was political parody. (Dos, 177) Now comes the presentation part. It is totally a craftsmanship, where the craftsman needs to interface with onlookers in a roundabout way. Before they come before them they need adequate practice to perform in front of an audience with model common sense. To make it complete, the craftsman ought to have suitable make up, discourse, to pass on the message with legitimate aptitudes of non verbal correspondence. Some of the time the connection with crowd can be immediate, it turns into a testing time for the artist’s good judgment, as various crowd can carry on impassively. So society specialists of a people show need to work as per it. In an ordinary auditorium the craftsman play out their job expertly in light of the fact that it is their meat and potatoes for them, so they need to perform calm unhesitatingly with the goal that the following request or roll doesn't stop away from them. Along these lines they need to work truly on that exhibition demonstration. Be that as it may, in the famous performance center, for example, society dramatization the craftsman assumes a job with no strain on the stage and they do well than the expert individuals. This just happens in light of the fact that they imagine that they are working for the general public or for the network to develop mindfulness among the individuals, with the goal that they don't endure subsequently in the later piece of the life. Here we can see that the ordinary theater craftsman play out their obligations for their occupation, while the well known theater craftsman accomplishes their work for the improvement of the general public. For instance, in India our legislature has showed a drive to get rid of shame around AIDS. While propelling this sort of government assistance needs, the administration has found a way to pass on the message to the individuals of India. One is by giving attention to the resident by the assistance of TV. (Outskirt, 227-228) This kind of little ad programs are secured by famous craftsman, so the admirers of the craftsman gets more pulled in to the message of the notice, which had been passed on to them and they ought to follow that message from that specific day and furthermore talk about the issue with others. With that specific point, the administration additionally dispatches little projects, similar to road plays, with the neighborhood individuals who remain in the towns and play out the job, where the consciousness of the ad had not reach. Here mainstream theater has its impact. It requires some investment and bother for the entertainers to accomplish the work, yet it will be certain that the message will be reach to every single family, which is significantly more successful than the ordinary theater. These kinds of famous performance center are directed by the craftsman as indicated by the town convention, culture and language which can give an increasingly constructive outcome on the psyches of the crowd. Craftsman faces numerous issues around here. Cost is a primary factor, where the vast majority of the cash originates from the administration, where the rest must be gathered from the government assistance trustees, who give for the improvement of the individuals. For each practice the specialists had a few costs for make ups, dress, food, dwelling, this little cost looks increasingly obvious when the craftsman is performing for quit along time. As the assets are extremely restricted it additionally cases a negative effect while playing out a job. For that the insiders and the untouchables need to talk uninhibitedly and transparently with the specific issue and with the assistance of the encounters they need to fathom it. A large portion of the individuals start with his own understanding and later notification or study the experience of other craftsman. (Deb, 323) The examination part is done between entertainers, facilitators, illustrators and even between the insiders and the untouchables. In this sort of examination the issue data is analyzed in three settings, that is practical social or political. This issue ought to quickly expose and the issue needed to comprehend in a split second with the goal that the presentation shows signs of improvement. In a mainstream theater, one most significant point must be notice that is to change over the significant issues into amusement and that specific diversion can be as arrangement of work shops, or a play. This sort of specific organized amusement or exercises should be possible by requesting that individuals assume the job of a gathering or network new to them and afterward have the inclination and mirror the experience. Along these lines it is sure that mainstream theater like acting, society show, celebrations, schedule festivities, for example, Christmas, Easter, the reap celebration and Halloween, jamborees, jokesters, unscripted television work exceptionally with regards to mass amusement. (Dev, 78-81) Conclusion When the craftsman take on extremely new jobs they are compelled to learn and discover new sentiments and experience followed by imaginative considerations. Feelings of new idea should be possible by fusing the thoughts into the topic. Here training happens and the following significant stage â€Å"rehearsal for life†, which additionally gives a chance of another observation. The giver or crowd are said to dissect or goals of an issue or leave the phase with an inciting question in the brain of the crowd so they can independently investigate and evaluate the way of life and work as indicated by the political situation. By settling this kind of logical inconsistency the show arrive at another stage and it goes to another difference thus the procedure gets consistent. (Dos, 441-442) Bibliography: Zarrilli, Phillip B. It shows simply because client didn't enter any information. (2) It will show the normal age of all individuals which are entered after choice of alternative 1. (3) It will toss special case ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException since lines can up to 3 in particular. (4) After choosing fourth choice, program exits. The userOptionSelected has esteem 4. userOptionSelected = m.getsel(scan); The worth is allocated to userOptionSelected. The getsel() Function gives the worth which is chosen by client. (5) If there is no break proclamation in the event that 3, program will bounce to default case. In the wake of printing default case, it will print menu. (6) There is message which proposes the client to enter legitimate alternative, if invalid choice is entered. This is default case. Health Services Administration free essay sample

The control of improvement and speculation of clinical innovation is divided. Recognize control focuses, and propose approaches to improve them. Recognize the private and open parts. Clinical innovation keeps on progressing to the most elevated of levels as of late; this has carried increasingly more consideration regarding guideline at the government, state, and expert level. Clinical innovation and the control of such innovation has likewise become a disputable issue in medicinal services today. The can nearly be straightforwardly identified with the quickly rising national medicinal services costs and their connection to the innovation. These expenses are expanding, though, the advantages or viability of the innovation despite everything need to substantiate themselves. The FDA is one control point for clinical advancements in the open part. The FDA audits and keeps up the endorsement of clinical gadgets and medications, which is a flat out necessity before the medications and gadgets can even be put available. We will compose a custom exposition test on Wellbeing Services Administration or then again any comparative point explicitly for you Don't WasteYour Time Recruit WRITER Just 13.90/page Notwithstanding gadgets, the FDA additionally controls new medications (Longest Darr, 2008). For instance, our Medicare program has built up a procedure for settling on repayment choices dependent on their evaluations of the innovation. Current discussion has raised proposition to move to the forthcoming installment dependent on current innovative changes. However, the private idea of the medicinal services framework and the restricted influence of the Medicare program limit the intensity of our administration to roll out any prompt improvement. 2) The electronic wellbeing record vows to alter the conveyance of wellbeing administrations. Distinguish the points of interest and detriments for the patient and for suppliers. Electronic wellbeing records (EHR) give the chance to social insurance associations to improve nature of care and patient security. They likewise speak to a colossal potential for cost reserve funds and can likewise diminish authoritative wasteful aspects (Longest, B. J. , Darr, K. 2008). Electronic records have a few favorable circumstances over paper records, the first being that it makes more space and capacity abilities for longer timeframes. The records can be handily kept up without stress of physical harm. Additionally, the records are available quickly from remote locales, to numerous individuals simultaneously. The records can be constantly refreshed and they are accessible for use all over the place. An EHR can diminish the clinical suppliers graphing times and decline the mistakes, which thus, can expand the profitability of social insurance laborers and lessening clinical blunders because of unintelligible notes (Longest, B. J. , Darr, K. 2008). Electronic records give progressively exact charging data and will permit the suppliers of care to present their cases electronically, accordingly accepting installment faster. Conversely, the detriments incorporate things, for example, the startup costs, which can be inordinate, anyway as time goes on, demonstrate to be practical. Clinicians are the essential clients of EHRs rather than the principle clients of the past, which where agents. Another weakness to an EHR is that there can frequently be a learning distinction between suppliers, clinicians, and clinical record managers so it is discovered useful if the clients have some kind of specialized information. As such, frameworks must be easy to understand; in any case these frameworks won't be handily acknowledged, nor will they be utilized to their fullest limit. 3) Competition is a significant power in wellbeing administrations, and showcasing is basic to HSO/HS achievement. What are the connections among promoting and acquisitions and use of clinical innovation? Give models from your experience or the writing. As indicated by our content, clinical innovation and social insurance advertisers encourage the connections between medical clinics, facilities, and people in general. As the expense and significance of social insurance keep on expanding, rivalry in the clinical business is taking new structures and getting progressively extraordinary. Rivalry in wellbeing administrations, access, costs, and the measure of care got shifts as for country and city regions. Rivalry would depend not just on factors that influence the interest for social insurance administrations, for example, the quantity of individuals who are guaranteed and the extent of their inclusion, yet in addition on factors that influence the flexibly of those administrations in these zones. The methâ ¬ods of setting costs and paying for administrations inconceivably influence the supâ ¬ply of social insurance benefits by impacting the choices that suppliers make about what number of patients to serve and which medicines their patients will get. Rivalry functions admirably in certain kinds of human services showcases in any case, not all that well in others. For instance, with booked medical procedure where the consideration is arranged and prepared for, the results can be handily estimated and patients have the opportunity to think about their choices, rivalry can react and respond to the requests of patients. In any case, complex administrations, for example, crisis nature of care can diminish because of absence of time and readiness.

Fancy Feast Happy People

Fancy Feast Happy People Chapter 1: A Formal Account of a Fancy Feast in February. Location: pika. Across the train tracks, just a few blocks into Cambridge, a big green house on Chestnut Street has a porch light on. This is pika, one of MITs independent living groups. Its a mixed house, home to an eclectic assortment of MIT undergrad, two cats, and a brood of hens. Every Friday night is Fancy Feast. The pikans eat together every night. There are always visitors: alumni, locals, students from Harvard, BU and Wellesley. Friday nights, anybodys welcome, and for the food and the company, its well worth the walk. Last nights Fancy Feast was elaborate. There was hot, rich spanakopita, Greek salad, eggplant. There were Dans hand-wrapped dolmas, golden puffs of fried and honey-soaked dough, and a hundred servings of baklava. Just try a little bit of everything, someone warned me, but I was heedlessly hungry, and by the time Id taken something from each dish, I had enough on my plate to feed all the chickens for a month. Afterwards, basking in the glow of good conversation and satiety, I talked about moving to pika. They say theres always a place at MIT, no matter who you are, that will make you really happy, my pikan friend (the author of that nights menu) told me, and you owe it to yourself to find that place. Even if youre already medium-happy. Im used to being surrounded by crazy people who love me. My home in Oregon was chaotic, noisy, and creative. Everybody does their own thing, every corner and tabletop has a project underway, the people are up for anything. Pikas like that. There are murals on the walls and a firemans pole from the fourth-story roofdeck. Theres a kite hanging from the ceiling and a piano anyone can play. Theres a painting that looks like an insect-alien right-side-up, and a man on a stool upside-down. There are introductions and candid moments. And theres a really cool map someboy painted of the fictional land from The Phantom Tollbooth, which my third grade teacher read aloud to the class, and a guy at pika read aloud in its entirety to an eager audience of like-minded housemates. Photo credits to Harini Suresh, the pretty painting girl in picture 2. Chapter 2. After dinner, we walked to Kendall Square Cinema to see Happy People: A Year in the Taiga.I loved it. I want my brother to see it, because I know hell love it too, but Im afraid that hell be too inspired to run off into the wilderness and live off fish and furry things caught in hand-built traps. Hes close enough to doing that already. Wise-sounding words from the movie, as I remember them: You can take almost anything away from a man. His health, wealth and suchlike. But not his craftsman skills. Once you learn a trade you always have your trade the rest of your life. WIthout moss and wedge to earn his bread, the carpenter would be long dead. Exposing the body [of a canoe] to heat makes the shape of the canoe permanent. I feel like all of those apply to MIT a little bit. The past few weeks here have been insane, for me and for my friends. Almost like being held over a fireIm crossing my fingers that its a part of the process, like the heat exposure step in canoe-making, and well all turn out stronger and finer for it. A Problem Of Social Justice - Free Essay Example

Imagine a world where there were no rules and everyone lived for themselves! We would probably look like something out of a syfy movie depicting life around the caveman times. Social order is needed in order for a group of people to live, work or just exit around each other. If not, chaos and disruption will be the norm because everyone would feel that they can do what they want and there isnt any kind of consequences for doing so. If you ask anyone what social order is or should be, depending on that persons identity, you may get different answers. Social theorists Karl Marx believe it is the relations of economic structure, Emile Durkheim believes it is a set of shared norms and Talcott Parson believes it is a set of social institutions regulating patterns of action-orientations which are based on a frame of cultural values. Regardless of what theorist you follow or believe, social order can be summarized as individuals agreeing to a shared social contract that states certain rules and laws must be abided and certain standards, values, and norms maintained. (Cole, 2018) There are different umbrellas of social order that one needs to follow. One individual can have social order in their family that differs from their community, work and government. Some examples of social order are as simple as how individuals get respect in their own home, recycle their trash according to their city laws, paint the color of their homes due to HOA bylaws or are eligible to receive government assist because they fall under the federal guidelines of poverty. The federal government follows the constitution of the United States and is funded by a federal budget that is set by the Congress. The constitution outlines the basic rights to every citizen of the US regardless of race, religion or sexual orientation. There are laws that define how old a person can be to buy a gun, who can marry who and how if an entity is receiving government funding, they cannot discriminate against a person because of their race, gender or disability. Although there are federal orders, each state also have their own laws that can vary between each state. On top of federal and state laws, each county, city, town and community also has their own bylaws and regulations to follow. An example of that is federal law states that marijuana is a schedule 1 controlled substance but in states like California and Colorado, marijuana is legal as medicinal and or recreation. Some states allow you to open carry guns such as Kentucky and others like New York, you cannot open carry a gun even if its registered to you. If you break federal or state laws, you may get arrested, put on house arrest or fined. If you break your community laws you may be forced to leave or shunned by your neighbors or family. When you really think about social order, it is almost like having control or authority over an area or person(s). Since social order has been established, we also have to understand social justice is also needed to make sure things are fair between individuals. Social Justice gives people rights and duties that are granted by the people with the laws they enact through the government. Those rights and duties are applied to where there are discrepancies and disparities that prevent any individual or group from the full exercise of those rights and to where It focuses with concerns about those in greater needs (Samuel-Burnette, 1989). An example of some applications of social justice are the civil right acts of 1964. When people hear about civil right acts, many roll their eyes and think of Martin Luther King Jr or giving blacks priority over certain people when it comes to college applications. The civil right act is so much more than that. It outlaws discrimination based on race, color religion, sex or orientation. It also prohibited application of voters registration requirements, racial segregation in schools, employment and public accommodations. THose two sentences alone, groups everyone together and does not let anyone be singled out or left out. Nelson Mandela has a quote that I feel summarizes social justice, It is in your hands to make a better word for all who lives in it.

The Constitution And Its Effect On Society - 1139 Words

Whenever decisions are made, there are always those who favor the decision, and those who oppose it. Things were no different with the Constitution. When the Constitution was written, the founders underwent a long process in order to explain how and when the Constitution would be applied. As a result of these discussions among the founders, two diverse groups were formed. One group favored a loose interpretation of the Constitution, and they believed that the government could use implied powers and that they were entitled to any powers that the Constitution did not explicitly forbid. These people wanted a stronger national government with more power. On the contrary, strict constructionists believed that the Constitution should be†¦show more content†¦The Louisiana Purchase enhanced the power of both the Legislative Branch and the Executive Branch. Prior to finalizing the deal, Jefferson sent James Monroe to purchase the land east of the Mississippi, specifically New Orleans , from France for no more than ten million dollars. However, France offered to sell the entire Louisiana territory for fifteen million dollars, since Napoleon could no longer expand his empire. The men appointed by Jefferson agreed upon the deal and sorted out the treaty. However, Jefferson, being a strict constructionist, questioned if this act was constitutional, since the Constitution listed nothing about taking foreign land. Jefferson drafted an amendment to the Constitution, in order to allow for the territory to be added to the Union, but Congress decided that the amendment was unnecessary, and ratified the treaty of purchase. Jefferson later attempted to justify his actions by arguing that his actions were valid under the treaty-making clauses of the Constitution. Because of this purchase, the size of the United States nearly doubled and allowed for Westward expansion. This deal increased the power of the President in regards to foreign relations and making treaties. Jeffers on set a precedent for all other presidents when dealing with foreign land. With the use of loose construction, Jefferson’s actions were justified by the Constitution, therefore giving all other presidents the same power. In addition, since there was

How Oobleck Works

Oobleck gets its name from the Dr. Seuss book called  Bartholomew and the Oobleck, because, well, oobleck is funny and strange.  Oobleck is a special type of slime with properties of both liquids and solids. If you squeeze it, it feels solid, yet if you relax your grip, it flows through your fingers. If you run across a pool of it, it supports your weight, but if you stop in the middle, youll sink like its quicksand.  Do you know how oobleck works? Non-Newtonian Fluids Oobleck is an example of a non-Newtonian fluid. A Newtonian fluid is one which maintains constant viscosity at any given temperature. Viscosity, in turn, is the property that allows liquids to flow. A non-Newtonian fluid does not have a constant viscosity. In the case of oobleck, viscosity increases when you agitate the slime or apply pressure. Ooblecks Interesting Properties Oobleck is a suspension of starch in water. The starch grains remain intact rather than dissolving, which is the key to the slimes interesting properties. When a sudden force is applied to oobleck, the starch grains rub against each other and lock into position. The phenomenon is called shear thickening and it basically means particles in a dense suspension resist further compression in the direction of shear. When oobleck is at rest, the high surface tension of water causes water droplets to surround the starch granules. Water acts as a liquid cushion or lubricant, allowing the grains to flow freely. The sudden force pushes the water out of the suspension and jams the starch grains against each other.

Four Women in American Music History Free Essays

American music history has grown an incredible amount in the last hundred years. Prior to that time, there were very few styles of music that originated in America. However, with the advent of jazz and related styles, American music culture was born. We will write a custom essay sample on Four Women in American Music History or any similar topic only for you Order Now Blues is one of the early styles of music that is truly American, and there are many American artists who sang or performed in that style. In fact, blues is still popular today, although it has changed over time. Blues is an important and long-term American musical style, which has had many effects on musical culture from the early 1900s through today. Bessie Smith was an early blues singer. She was popular in the 1920s and 30s, and was known as much for her hard-drinking, rough life as much as her music. She sang about what she knew. Bessie was an African American woman who indulged in sex and alcohol, and had a strong temper. She never gave up without a fight, either in her music or her life. Getting into a fight with Bessie wasn’t something a person wanted to do, either, because she was over six feet tall and weighed about two hundred pounds. Bessie had a history of getting into fist fights with people, male or female. She also took off after her ex-husband with a gun when she found him cheating on her, after beating up his lover. However, Bessie herself was known for sleeping with a number of both men and women (Whitney). Musically, Bessie was not really trained. She could not read music, and relied on other musicians to write her songs down for her. She did write her own lyrics, though. She was a formidable presence on stage, able to sing loudly and strongly because of her size, and her tendency to sing in the range that was easiest for her. In writing her music, Bessie tended to modify existing melodies, and sometimes create new ones, so that they lay well in her â€Å"good† range (Whitney). Here is an example of Bessie’s lyrics, which show her feelings about life plainly: â€Å"I ain’t no high yella, I’m a deep killer brown. /I ain’t gonna marry, ain’t gonna settle down. /I’m gonna drink good moonshine and rub these browns down. /See that long lonesome road, Lawd you know it’s gonna end,/and I’m a good woman and I can get plenty men† (Whitney). Bessie was also known as something of a racist. While her fans were both black and white, she was rude to both whites and lighter-skinned blacks. Even at the height of her career, when she had enough money to live as she chose (even as a white person might, in the early 30s), she chose to stay on the streets and to live the life that was familiar to her. Her lyrics here show her thinking on this matter: â€Å"Mister rich man, rich man, open up your heart and mind,/Mister rich man, rich man, open up your heart and mind;/Give the poor man a chance, help stop these hard, hard times. /While you’re livin’ in your mansion you don’t know what hard times means, /While you’re livin’ in your mansion you don’t know what hard times means; /Poor working man’s wife is starving your wife is livin’ like a queen† (Whitney). Ethel Waters is a blues singer who began performing later in Bessie’s career. While Bessie was primarily performing and well known during the 1920s, Ethel became better known in the 1930s (her career did officially begin in 1921, though). Ethel was specifically a different kind of blues singer than Bessie, and in fact was different from her in many ways. Ethel is also of African American decent, but she grew up in the North and was heavily influenced by white performers. When she began performing professionally, Ethel joined a group of blacks who called themselves â€Å"Cakewalk singers,† which was distinctly different from the more traditional blues singers, like Bessie (PBS). Ethel’s acceptance of whites can be traced to what was a very rough beginning for her. She was born when her mother was only 12. Her mother had been raped by a white man, John Waters. Ethel, then, is half-white, and carries her father’s surname. She was raised by her maternal grandmother in poverty, and began singing at age 5. Her beginnings are much more similar to Bessie’s, but what she did with herself later differs widely (Myers). Ethel worked with a number of famous jazz performers, including Duke Ellington. In addition to her singing career, Ethel was also an actress, an area of her life that eventually came to the forefront. Her singing style was not nearly as strong as Bessie’s, but she performed very theatrically and managed to capture the audience’s interest in all of her music. This came in handy, as she continued performing through the 1960s and 70s, working at that time with Billy Graham (PBS). Ultimately, Bessie’s influence on Ethel was very indirect. Both were jazz singers in a time when African Americans were first on the rise in popularity on the stage. Bessie’s grit may have given Ethel opportunities she might not have otherwise had. In many other ways, though, the two were very different; attitude, style, and more. Dinah Washington is another important singer in this chain of history. Her birth name was Ruth Jones, and she was born in 1924. She is significantly younger than both Ethel and Bessie, whose careers were near their peaks when she was born. Music was in Dinah’s family from the beginning. Her mother was a church pianist, and taught her to play at a young age. She was accompanying and touring by the time she was 16, and had already won prizes. However, although her initial roots were in the church, Dinah longed to work in secular music, namely jazz (Dahl). At age 19, Dinah got her big break, singing with Lionel Hampton’s Big Band, then one of the most popular music styles. By 1945, she was recording her own solo work for the Apollo label and Mercury records, and by 1948, she was on her way to major stardom. 1959 was her biggest year, when she sang â€Å"What a Dif’rence a Day Makes† (Dahl). In her personal life, Dinah was similar to Bessie. She had many husbands, and she drank a lot. In fact, alcohol and drugs eventually killed her at the end of 1963 (Dahl). In addition, she also loved the finer things, including fur, clothes, and cars. Her personality was known as â€Å"feisty,† and she could be snapping one minute and generous the next (Cohodas). At first glance, Christina Aguilera doesn’t look much like the other stars. For one, she isn’t black. For another, she was born after all of the other singers had died. However, it is her roots and influences that she is similar to them. Like Dinah, she is biracial, with a mom who is Irish and a father who is Ecuadorian. Her father was in the military, which meant that Christina traveled a lot as a child (Biggest Stars). Also like the other singers, Christina was interested in singing and performing from the time she was a young girl. Her family was also musical, with her mother performing on violin and piano professionally. Christina had a brief, two-year stint on The Mickey Mouse Club when she was a child, working with other singers who later became famous, like Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake (Biggest Stars). Christina’s initial music was definitely pop, with her first number one single titled â€Å"Genie in a Bottle. † The single topped both the U. S. and UK charts in 1999. For awhile longer, Christina continued in the pop genre, recording for the movie Mulan, and singing a new version of â€Å"Lady Marmalade† with several other female pop stars (Biggest Stars). Christina’s work eventually began to seem less significant to her, and she decided to record her 2002 album â€Å"Stripped. † The album was the first that really showed her background and influences. Her comments about this album: â€Å"Coming off of the height of being a part of such a big pop-craze phenomenon, that imagery of that cookie-cutter sweetheart, without it being me, I just had to take it all down and get it away from me. And that is why I actually named the album Stripped, because it is about being emotionally stripped down and pretty bare to open my soul and heart. † This album used many different influences, including soul, RB, rock, hip-hop and Latin (Biggest Stars). Aguilera’s influences were similar to the earlier stars mentioned. She looked to soul and RB, both of which are styles typically recorded by African Americans. The blues aspect of RB, in particular, is interesting to note. Aguilera was following in the footsteps of the other female jazz singers with this style. Also, similar to Dinah Washington, Aguilera sang pop (Dinah did pop in addition to her jazz roots). In general, all four of these women have things in common, and things that are different. Each grew up under similar circumstances, often with mostly maternal influences. Most had some kind of musical background at home. Most grew up poor, and all had an early talent for music and singing. Most also had a taste for sex, drugs, and some rougher things in life, and had a hard time at one point or another. However, each was unique. Bessie was certainly the biggest and most blunt of the group, while Christina stood of the opposite end as the â€Å"sweetheart† of pop for awhile. Christina was also different in that she was not of African American decent in any way, although Ethel was also half-white. Some of the singers, namely Dinah, had their start in gospel music, while others went straight for jazz or pop. Overall, it is interesting how strikingly similar the artists are, even though there are also very big differences in their lives and styles. Their stories and backgrounds are surprisingly similar in some respects, but very different in others. These four women are just some of the amazing performers from the rich tapestry that is American music history. Sources Burns, Ken. â€Å"Ethel Waters. † Jazz. Accessed on December 4, 2007. Income statement and balance sheet The sales of the company are in increasing trend and the net income of the company is also in increasing trend. The total assets as well as liablities of the company for the month of September amounted to $ 68,07,939. Account receivable of the company forms a major part of the asset and amounting to $ 34,93,969. The retained earnings of the company amounted to $34,15,685. Contribution margin The contribution margin of the company is in increasing trend and is aligned with the increased sales volume. Therefore, it can be said that the company is able to manage its variable expenses efficiently and generating contribution out of the sales. CVP analysis From the CVP graph it is identified that the cost and revenue will be same that means profit will be zero at the sales level of 600,000 at the time of between 5th year and 6th year and after that year te company will start earning positive profit. Analysis of quality of income Particulars July August September Total Operating cash flows $ (206,352.80) $ (102,641.13) $ (51,082.32) $ (1,121,786.03) Net income $ 206,668 $ 251,611 $ 303,430 $ 761,710 Quality of income -1.00 -0.41 -0.17 -1.47 Quality of income represents the operating cash flow proportion with regard to net income. Generally, a ratio that is greater than 1 is considered as high quality of income whereas a ratio less than 1 represents low quality income. Therefore, the quality of income is the earnings amount that is generated from the operation of business. Looking at the quality income of APA, is is identified that the quality of income for July, August and September are negative (Edmonds et al., 2016). The main reason behind that is though the company was able to generate positive income; it was not able to generate any positive cash flow from operations over all the three months. However, it is recognized that the company is improving its quality of income. Reason why income is greater than the operating cash flow Generally, the operating cash flow of any organization is always more than its net income. Net income is calculated by subtracting the operational expenses, cost of sales, amortization expenses, depreciation, taxes and interest from the total revenue (Weygandt, Kimmel Kieso, 2015). On the other hand, the net cash flows from the operating activities are calculated as the sum for net income, changes in working capital and non cash expenses. If the cash expenses like interest expenses is more or the company has made then the net income of the company may be more than the cash flow from operation (Demski, 2013). Two areas where the company is not using its cash effectively are the accounts receivable and inventory. Under the accounts receivable the, amount of account receivable is increased from $327,558 in July to $362,292 in September (Chiu Okudan, 2014). Therefore, the company shall make required efforts to collect the receivables efficiently. Further, the company is also not making its purchase efficiently as it is identified that purchase of inventory has felt from $164,070 in July to $92,408 in September. The financial analyst shall look into this matter and take necessary steps to improve its inventory position (Farris et al., 2015). Computation of financial metrics Calculation of financial metric Formula July August September Operating margin Operating income/sales 7.92% 8.66% 9.38% Days sales in ending accounts receivable Ending accounts receivables/average sales per day 36.42 Inventory turnover cost of goods sold/average inventory 0.31 0.31 0.33 Asset turnover sales/average total assets 0.48 Measurement of performance Looking at the financial metrics of the company, it is recognized that the operating margin of the company is increasing trend and though it was 7.92% during July, the company was able to increase it to 9.38% in September. The competitor average is 8.9% and that of industry average is 8.2%. Therefore, the operating margin of the company is better as compared to the competitors as well as the industry average (Marr, 2015). The companys account receivable cycle is 36.42 days whereas the industry average is 31 days and competitors cycle is 28 days. Therefore, the company shall take necessary steps to improve its receivable cycle. Further, the inventory turnover as well as asset turnover ratio both are significantly low as compared to the industry average as well as the competitors ratio. Therefore, the financial analyst shall look into all these factors to improve the performance of the company (Kumar et al., 2013). Conclusion It has been recognized from the above discussion that sales of the company are in increasing trend and the receivables of dues are in compliance with the sales value. Further, the payments for the purchases are in compliance with the increasing trend of the purchase. Therefore, the collection as well as the payments of the dues is managed by the company efficiently. The operating margin of the company is better as compared to the competitors as well as the industry average. However, the financial analyst shall take necessary steps to improve its receivable cycle, inventory turnover and asset turnover ratio to improve the performance of the company. References Ahmed, A. Cicero Essay Example For Students

Cicero Essay Cicero was and still is one of the greatest writers and politicians of all-time. He studied law, oratory, literature, and philosophy under Scaevola to enrich Rome with fine writings and political excellence. His birth name was Marcus Tullius. Born in 106 B.C., Cicero was anything but popular. His hometown of Arpinum was not exactly among the top cities of Rome. Cicero unlike most great writers and politicians of his time, had to work hard and use the wealth and power of others to find his place in Roman aristocracy. Cicero finally reached the pentacle of his political career when he concurred Catiline in a battle for the position of consul. After Cicero had won the position of consul in 64 B.C. Catiline organized a plot to overthrow the government. When Cicero found out he suppressed the conspiracy and had many of his cohorts executed. Although this was one of his greatest accomplishments, he was exiled in 58 B.C. After a year of concentrating on his writing, Cicero was called back t o Rome by Pompey the Great. In 51 B.C. he was assigned to the position of proconsul of the providence of Cilicia. In 50 B.C. Cicero returned to Rome to help Pompey with his fight against Caesar, but after Pompeys defeat Cicero became a supporter of Caesar. After Caesars assassination Cicero went back into politics and became a supporter of Octavian. On December 7, 43 B.C., Cicero was executed by Marc Antony as an enemy of the state. While alive Cicero greatly enriched the vocabulary of his own language. Cicero covered more intellectual subjects in his writings than most writers of his time. Many of his philosophical works were borrowed from Greek sources are very valuable and would have been left undiscovered without Ciceros documentation of them. Most of his rhetorical works, written in dialogue form, are rich sources of history. The most famous of these orations are the four against Catiline and the fourteen so-called Philippics against Antony. Among the minor works of Cicero, the essays On Old Age and On Friendship have and always will be admired for their urbane, and cultivated style. The four collections of letters to his friends are among his most precious works. These letters are a spontaneous self-revelation of Cicero and an excellent source of information not the politics of ancient Rome. Ciceros position as a lawyer helped to gain even more fame, particularly during two well-known lawsuits of his time. The first involved the governor of Sicily, Gaius Verres, who had been accused of murder and theft. Representing the state, Cicero forced Verres into exile after witness testimony and a strong speech accused Verres of his crimes. A second case involved a man accused of killing his father in which Cicero revealed in court that others had murdered the accuseds father in an attempt to frame the young man and steal the family fortune. Cicero created rich prose and style in both his writings and politics. The clarity in which he ruled his writing and political careers is only one reason that Cicero was and still is one of the greatest writers and politicians of all-time, and this was his effect on Rome and the rest of the world. Regency Grand Hotel free essay sample

Introduction Case Study of Regency Grand Hotel This hotel is based in Bangkok and was established by local investors 15 years ago and was operated by Thai general manager since that time. It had 700 employees that time and use to provide good employee benefits, above market rate salaries and job security and bonuses regardless of the hotel performance during that year. This hotel was sold to an American large chain of hotel who wanted to expand its operation in Thailand. The general manger decided to take an early retirement since the acquisition was announced..The new owners kept all old employees and few were transferred to other positions. A new general manager John Becker an American with 10 years of management experience was appointed. Becker was a strong believer of empowerment, which increases performance, job satisfaction and employee motivation and this factors contribute to the hotel profitability and customer experience. The Grand hotel was always profitable since it opened 15 years ago. We will write a custom essay sample on Regency Grand Hotel or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Management instructions were always followed by the employees and earlier, innovation and creativity was discouraged.Often employees were punished for their mistakes as a result employees were afraid to take ownership or to try new ideas. Becker has introduced empowerment and has given clear instructions to the managers, he told the managers that employees must be empower with decision-making authority so that they could use their initiative and judgement to satisfy guests needs. However, only serious and complex issues need to be dealt by superiors and advised mangers not to discuss minor issues with him. In the past Regency use to operate under administrative control resulting in many bureaucratic procedures throughout the organization.Becker used to spend lot of time in interacting with employees which helped many employees to understand what he wanted and expected of them but the employees had difficulty to distinguish major and minor issues. More often supervisors use to reverse employee decisions by stating that it was major issue and need management approval and employees who use to take initiative rarely use to receive positive feedback from their superiors. Eventually, employees lost confidence in decision making and started relying on superiors.Becker realized that his subordinates were consulting him more often than before and majority of them were minor issues. This made him frustrated and very often he use to tell his secretary that â€Å" unless the hotel is on fire, don’t let anyone disturb me. † Contrary to his expectation, the business and overall perfor mance began to downfall. There were more guest complaints and one of the local newspaper and overseas newspaper had published negative feedback on the hotel. Even employees stress level was increased with the introduction of empowerment.Absenteeism and staff turnover rate reached an all time high and there was no unity and support amongst staff. Organizational Behaviour related work problems that have been identified in this case study are as follows: a) Leadership and Management style Ability to influence people and getting the desired work done is called leadership and managers are basically leaders who discharge their duties using their effective leadership styles depending upon the nature of organisation, mode of operation or kind of followers and employees being skilled or unskilled. As per the case study the management style is very important when it comes to run the operation smoothly and effectively. The earlier management for this hotel was following bureaucratic style of leadership(transactional d ef) also the management style stated by Mc gregor which broadly categorised managers in to two groups i. e group x and group y. Here, group x managers are basically bureaucrats who are not team players and believe in punishment and reward system while on other hand group y managers are approachable, they work as a team and are very supportive when it comes to employee motivation and boosting the morale. ) Work psychology and motivation Job satisfaction and dissatisfaction is a great concern for the managers as it is directly linked to the job performance. Job dissatisfaction de moralises the employee which can have serious consequences that includes employee unrest, absenteeism, tardiness, employee turn over and union activities. The hidden or the psychological contract between employees and the management keep employees motivated all the time during work. Any discrepancies in this will lead to dissatisfaction at both the ends as it may effect the job performance and also damaged overall growth of organisation. The Thai management operating in this hotel had kept many rewards system to motivate the employees wh ere monetary benefits were given the top priority as salaries were above market rate. Also, psychologically workers were secured . According to Maslow theory on hierarchy of needs the job security of employees is taken care at the same time the physiological needs are being supported by the management with good employee benefits. This motivates the employee and drives them to next level of motivation where they try to focus on work and perform better. ) Psychological contract and employee performance Psychological contract is an unwritten contract between the employees and the management which explains a series of mutual understanding and satisfaction of needs(Mullins L,2008). In this case study, psychologically employees were under fear of getting punished when they were under Thai management and this fear factor made them to work under disciplined way and strictly followed set of rules and guidelines lead by the management which made them to discharge their duties accurately with minimum errors. In returned the employees knew that working in a right way and performing will reward them with high salary and bene fits provided by the organisation but when the same hotel was manged by an American management this psychological contarct started deteriorating as this management style was different than the previous one and things started changing in terms of job performance, distribution of powers, handling guests and other issues. The new strategy adopted by the new management which believes in empowerment made supervisors feel inferior than their subordinates as employees started interacting with top management for any minor issues. The fear of getting punished for mistakes doesn’t exist among the employees in the organisation as they were empowered and were now capable of making decisions by themselves which disturbed the teamwork and started pointing fingers on each other for anyones mistakes and no one took the blame. Analysis of the problems and Solution ) Leadership and Management style: Every organization has its own set of SOP’s and protocol to be followed and it is very significant to understand the kind of work the organisation is indulged in. As lack of this knowledge will give unclear picture of the organisation and kind of management strategies to be used. As per Mc Gregors theory of leadership group x and group y managers, the hotel regent was operated by group x managers which were task oriented managers who thoroughly understand the organisation and the people working within.

John Marshal Essays - 6th United States Congress, Marbury V. Madison

John Marshal Essays - 6th United States Congress, Marbury V. Madison John Marshal Blake Zuckerman Period 1 History Did the Supreme Court Under John Marshal have a significant impact on American history? John Marshall was born in 1755. He was the 4th chief justice of the U.S Supreme Court of Virginia for 34 years. (encyclopedia.com/articles/08102.html) He was a federalist who believed that the U.S should have a powerful central government. Marshall defended the U.S. constitution, and did not trust the Jeffersonians because he felt it was his duty to protect the government. Many of his conclusions and decisions were drawn from three major cases, which were: Fletcher vs. Peck, Marbury vs. Madison and McCulloch vs. Maryland. (http://odur.let.rug.nl/usa/B/jmarshal/marsh.htm) He had a great impact on getting the people to respect the Supreme Court, which later gave him the nickname Great Chief Justice. He had a great positive impact on the Supreme Court, but mostly on the judicial system. (http://history1700s.about/aa022198.htm?iam=ask&terms=) Below I will describe any significant information needed about John Marshall and about some of the major cases. The case Marbury vs. Madison was brought to attention by William Marbury. He ordered James Madison to give him his commission as justice of the peace. (Madison was the secretary of the state at the time.) In this case Marshall favored Marbury. Marshall argued that the court might rule an act of congress unenforceable if the act goes against the constitution. From this Marshall made the Doctrine of Judicial Power. (http://history1700s.about/aa022198.htm?iam=ask&terms=) One of the significant cases Marshall dealt with was the case of McCulloch vs. Maryland. That case occurred in 1819, and showed that Marshall could use the constitution wisely and to his advantage. It is about how Maryland tried to force the Bank of the United States out of its territory by taxing it. Marshall favored McCulloch and backed him up with the statement that no state had the right to hinder or control any national institution established within its borders (quote from article III of the Articles of Confederation). (encyclopedia.com/) From this, Marshall established the doctrine of judicial view. (www.law.cornell.edu) The constitution was very helpful in supporting the federal government for Marshall. There was also the famous case, of Fletcher vs. Peck in 1810. In this Marshall made the law that states that the Constitution protects against interference from the states. This case was the first time that the court declared a state law unconstitutional. (World Book Encyclopedia, book 13, pg. 230) In conclusion I think I think Marshall made a very significant impact on American society while under the Supreme Court. There were many more things that he did to change our country. Some of those helped build freedom of speech, criminal law, civil rights, and many more. Marshall helped make what our country is today. I doubt anyone can look at what he did over his 34 years as a Chief Justice and say he didnt make a great impact on American history. Therefore, as low as Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine scored on the 2010 Corruption Perceptions Index, this was an improvement over previous years. The problem for the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) dates back to the fall of the Berlin Wall. It was at this time that these countries have been transitioning from socialist and centrally oriented states to â€Å"multiparty democracies and market-based economic system†. Many of these countries did not have and continue to struggle with maintaining legal and political frameworks necessary for supporting open market economies. Thus, these transitioning states became breeding groups for corruption. The World Bank reports that the decline in corruption corresponds with the strengthening of legal and political regimes in the CIS. All indications are that corruption appears to continue to be problematic in Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation and Ukraine. As of 2011, reports reveal trends that require purposeful action. Nichol informs that as states in transition, the increasing influx of foreign funds relative to foreign investment in oil and gas, together with lower wages among government officials and weak legal and political institutions are favourable to corruption. In fact, the increases in gas and oil exports in Kazakhstan have only increased the corruption trends. TORO, the contact for Transparency International in Ukraine wrote to the President of the European Council expressing concern on behalf of Transparency International for the â€Å"high level of corruption in Ukraine†.
